As an old goalie I know what this generally means....

Monster should get the start. This is a huge debut. A shaky outing could mean some serious consternation from media pundits, fans and Thrasher alike ;)

Conveniently I'm a little sick, and will be heading home early from work tongue

I think the Ottawa game was the one they had targeted for Gustavsson to start from the beginning. Even before the first game, nobody would have had Toskala start the first four straight, and game 2 was against Washington and game 4 is against Pittsburgh. Not really the best time to be starting a rookie goalie in his first game in North America after being injured in the preseason.

Totally agree with both of you. Especially Kordic27's priorities ;)

Monster doesn't have to win, though that would be nice. No soft goals and Leafs Nation will pronounce the 2nd coming of Ken Dryden.

I don't expect Gusty (i like that name better!) to win the game since you need the team as a whole to win, but to play well? Yeah. He'll be tested with some tough shots and very nice plays from skilled Ottawa players. He'll be tested in terms of focus since i expect some roughness around his net.

Big test for Gustavsson, and he shouldn't allow soft goals..........well ok...one at most.

Were you replying to me mperoni? If so, did I miss something or are goalies still credited with wins & losses like pitchers in baseball? You mention Monster will be tested in terms of "tough shots" "very nice plays" "focus."

Might he also be tested in how well he executes Coach Allaire's "big body, center to the puck positioning" butterfly style?

I posted "no soft goals" as the bar. You post one soft goal is acceptable. What if the one soft goal is the winner in a game decided by one goal? Is one soft goal still acceptable?

Gusty sounds like a queer wind, like something you would say at a gay sailing club.

Gus... just Gus. Please.

tweaked groin... commence mass panic.

Leafs lose their two best young rookies in one game.. Stalberg and Gus. Sucks.

**And no Cancuks fans, that's not tampering.

Shite. I'm worried about what happens when/if Toskala goes out on Saturday and gets lit up by a Pens team looking for blood. Maybe we hope for the Stanley Cup hangover?

Does Wilson DARE to start Mac at any point in the next week?
