I do not know what anyone else thinks but I believe that the board over the last couple of weeks has turned a page into uglier side.......Maybe it is the emotions of the season starting. Perhaps it is the topics that have come up. I do not know but Im seeing posters that have known each other a long time treat each other with dis-respect and it saddens me.
Please consider the following when posting. This is by no means the rules it is just a guideline I try to follow. For the record I have broke my own guidelines but I do try and get back on track shortly their after.
1.) Politics and religion do not belong in a hockey board. There is no excuse on this type of discussions.
2.) Be respectful of other posters in regards to personal attacks, name calling etc. There really is no place for any of this type of behavior.
3.) Remember disagreeing with someone is okay but keep it to the points in hand and do not resort to name calling. If someone calls you a name then be man or women enough to suck it up and do not add fuel to the fire by calling them a name back. If you want to remind that person that personal attacks are not really appreciated please do so. Most of us are adults and most of us would be more then okay with apologizing for crossing the line if notified about it.
4.) Bravado & Testorone are okay but try and temper it a bit. Chest beating is not a great thing for others to read.
5.) Be mindful of the fact that sometimes the internet does not convey your message the clearest. Please read your re-read your posts twice on senstive topics in order to make sure your message cannot be mis-interpreted. Many times I have changed my original response to be a little more specific and a lot kinder so I know it can easily happen.
6.) There is absolutely nothing wrong with saying someone has changed your mind, helped you understand things more clearly, made you think about something you never considered before, made you work hard for facts in your reseach etc. Take the time to mention this if it happens to you. Nobody is going to think you are weak if you change your mind on something or give someone a pat on the back for putting together a strong arguement. In fact I believe it makes me think that person is stronger.
7.) If you see something that someone has posted that you enjoyed or you appreciated take the time to thank them. Far to often it is only the negative that gets a response. The words "Thank YOU" are two of the most powerful words in the english language.
8.) Do not hi-jack other people's threads it is not overly polite. If you see a hi-jack in process then respond merely with a Hi-jack comment and at least allow the person the opportunity to explain further. Hi-jacking can happen to anyone and sometimes can happen by accident.
There I have said my piece.......I read my post twice and broke one of my own guidelines by making this post but I think it is important for us to continue to work together in order to make this a good forum to discuss hockey. A poster who I will not name almost destroyed this board by personal attacks a short while ago and it was a breath of fresh air to get some sanity back. Let's not forget that we can quickly go back down the same path of destruction a lot faster then it can be re-built.

Thanks Shakes - I agree with all of what you have said - the thing about this board is there really are only maybe 20 or 30 people who post regularly - it's like a family, we're bound to argue sometimes.
Now - can we just get back to hockey - like how the Canucks are definitely going to finish 1st overall this year?

The Cannucks are just as likely finishing first overall as the Leafs are of finishing dead last....(inspite of the nay sayers probably wanting to jump in and say I like those odds remember it is a long season)

I don't know about that westvandal. I just got called hypocritical on this board. I also post on a Ducks board and I've never been called names there, ever.
So I just want to say my goodbyes now. You guys know who you are so I don't have to name you. I'm really afraid of missing some names. It's been a pleasure sharing with you.

so you leave because you were called a "hypocrite"?. To be honest, i have to say, you ve got a thin skin then. Come on, i know you just had a bad moment and you ll be back...at least i hope so.
I ve been called worse but its only a matter if you can take it and can make a judgement in terms from where this kind of stuff comes. There is always someone who wants to pick a fight - heck even i am guilty of this sometimes - but its not a reason to throw the towel.
I dont know about the other guys, but recently it seems to me, we have all become old stubborn dudes who cant accept anything else than their own opinion. So i hope everyone takes a step back and avoids taking shots at other posters. There is nothing better than a good discussion with a whole bunch of different views, the key is to accept that others have other opinions and not to get PO'ed if someone calls you a lame a$$ or something.
Keep it straight but keep it clean, thats my message for this board.

it can't be so bad. hockey's a contact sport and a hockey forum has it's parallels. i'd read some of the disagreements here, but all should be forgiven/forgotten. it's no where close to when scotty was here.
it's still a great crew here, and altho i've been really too busy to contribute these days, i still sneak a peak whenever i can. besides whose gonna report on Socal for me now that i'm no longer there? hehe

when I do get some stubble these days it is the worst looking mess. A couple of patches of grey decided to creep in and they look like spots.....come to think of a couple of hairs on my head turned grey as well. Does anyone know a cure?
