15 of our next 20 games are here in Anaheim. For most teams that would be a nice opportunity to establish themselves as a top team. Not for the Ducks, at least as far most Ducks fans are concerned.
Last season the Ducks had the worst home record of all playoff teams with only 20 wins. So what we're looking to do is reestablish ourselves as a dominate home team. Those of you who saw the Ducks fail to meet the Sharks intensity in our season home opener know what I'm talkin' about.
For those who didn't we fans are looking for a little, "oh, not in our barn you don't" attitude.
Kinda of a sad day for me in Ducksville. You've probably heard Andrew Ebbett was waived today. I don't disagree with the decision. I just liked the kid and was pulling for him. IMO he's another Steve Sullivan with a tad more seasoning.
Coach Carlyle seemed to have found an interesting solution to our less than stellar PK. First of course is cutting down on the stupid penalties. No that's not a shot at Leafs Nation. Ducks do take some real bonehead penalties, retaliation and "beat on the play" holds, hooks & trips or the sloppy high sticking stuff.
Rather than 2 PK units consisting of 4 guys on each. Coach Carlye is practically using the entire bench when shorthanded. The other night against the Wild Ducks were a perfect 4 fer 4 on the PK. Carlyle used 3 and 4 sets of forwards and 3 sets of D on each of the kills.
Boy, there's a lot to be said about that on so many levels. I'll keep ya's posted if Coach sticks with it.

I thought you weren't big on Carlyle's coaching decisions.

How is it you totally miss the point that's he's obviously adapting and trying new things?

No you missed the point I totally understand your post but when we discussed coach in the summer I said he was a great coach and been following him since he played with the Pens, you said he was ok and you had problems with some of his coaching decisions.....you have a tendency to forget and be very hypocritical.

I found the thread upice and nowhere did you post "he was a great coach." You posted that you had "always been a fan (of Carlyle)"
You can't even quote yourself accurately.

I noticed ypu didn't look for your quotes.

On the same thread, I posted, "I run hot and cold on Carlyle." I didn't post that out of some misguided kindness to not show you up too much.
So if you want to call me hypocritical, you might try getting your facts straight.

Dude.. when you drill a guy like that and then back off that quickly, it tells me you're trying to pick a fight .. are you?

What??!!!

Interesting that he was using the entire bench on the PK........not to many people would try that. Me personally I just think he wanted to keep a lot of people in the game and was showing he had confidence in all of them.
I still say that stupid penalties on a good team is not necessarily a bad thing. Problem is on a poor team like the leafs it sucks and the Ducks well good are not a great team.

I always thought that you should play everybody, good way for coaches to see each players strenghts and weaknesses and then work with those players from there. Voros on the Rangers is a perfect example, he consistantly takes bad penalties and then doesn't dress.

I think you mis-understood my meaning........
Coaches typically play everybody but not necessarily on the PK.

no I didn't misunderstand your meaning, carlyle could be evaluating players by using all of them on the PK. If your a man short, it's a good way to evaluate players speed, transition and unit play, because you have to work harder to succeed being a man down. Carlyle then "might" be re-establishing lines as he sees necessary on the big team plan. Especially after getting drilled 5-0 by St Louis. But that is just speculation on my part.

I do not think Carlyle would need the pk in order to evaluate players speed, transition and unit play as he would have a good handle on that already. I believe he was just a coach trying to get more players ice time in the game and seeing who was showing up and who might be better on the PK then anticipated.
