Peter Chiarelli added more depth and yet another 2nd round pick last night as he traded Chuck Kobasew to the Wild.
The Bruins receive a 2nd rd. pick, Craig Weller and Alexander Fallstrom in the deal.
The BRuins also create additional cap space.
Chiarelli, IMHO, is doing an absolutely masterful job of acquiring sought after draft picks and increasing the organizational depth.
Brad Marchand has been called up to take Kobasew line up spot.

But how does this help the Bruins now? Kessel's goals are lost, and now Kobasew's 20 goals are lost as well.

I was thinking the same thing. ????
One thing I have noticed about Boston is that they are very pro-active team in being ahead of the curve. If they are not sold on a player they trade him before they are forced to.
Only thing I can say is that there is a strong possibility that Boston is loading up on picks as barting chips for the deadline in order to fill in those last two-three gaps they need to fill. Kobasews salary spot will be reduced + they garner a pick to trade away later.
Either that or it is Boston's MASTER plan to own every single solitary pick in the 2011 draft....LOL!

Neely, Chia, and Julien believe that Brad Marchand and Vald Sbotka are ready to make NHL impacts now.
Mark Recchi is likely next to go if he doesnt pick pace up.

BINGO!
With it being a fait acompli that Kovalchuk is dealt at the deadline, Boston is positioning itself to have the absolute best shot (between picks and prospects) of being able to acquire him.
And by moving Kobie, it would (assuming they deal for Kovalchuk) to be able to choose between re-signing he or Savard.
This deal all but guarantees that all players they want to retain, can be retained!

Yes should be ready to go in a couple of weeks?

You make the assumption that Atlanta will not be able to resign Kovalchuk....what happens if they do? Who will Boston go after then? I have friends in Atlanta and they say management is trying hard to resign him and has done all the right things by building a better team....shoudl be interesting.
Of all the teams, I think I have seen Boston build it up and break it down more times than any other team in the past 10 years....must be hard on the fans to go through that roller-coaster so many times.

Aaaahh Jeffie you never change.
Kobasew acquired by the B's a few years ago: "Great trade. LOVE this kid."
Kobasew scores 20 goals last year. "LOVE This kid. GREAT trade"
Kobasew is traded for a 2nd round pick and some pylons.. "what a masterful trade, LOVE it. "

I never said I dont still love the guy.
I do. Very good player for the Bruins style of play. Problem is Ian, Brad Marchand is younger, more aggressive and more of a long term fit. As Neely said this morning in a NESN interview...Marchand and Sobotka both should have made the team out of camp. However, they were sent to Providence so that 2 vets could make the team.
And now with Paille on board....Kobasew wasnt "needed."
And adding more trade chips Ian! Without picks, how do you make solid trades? Toronto doesnt get Kessel without those picks. Bruins can use those picks to move up to draft another franchise type guy, or acquire another top d-man or forward. Plus cap space counts as well.
While Kobasew may be better than Marchand now....in a year or 2, he will not be.

Moving Chuck Kobasew, and adding Dan Paille and Brad Marchand to the roster is breaking it down?
I love Kobasew. However he is NOT the key to this team. In fact, Marchand may well have as big an impact as Kobasew had.
Most Bruins fans (not myself however) have been wanting Kobasew out since deadline day last season. As much as I love his game, he IS very inconsistent. Will put up 8 points in a 10 day stretch...and follow it up with 2 in 20 games.
The physicality is always there...but in that regard, Marchand is better already.
Bottom line is they saved cap space and have a more physical guy who is also a guy they are looking at as a 25-30 goal grinder now in the line-up.

Jeff I don't disagree.. you just make me laugh 'cause you say the same thing with every Boston trade. :)
