So let me get this straight.

Ott hip checked Colaiacovo resulting in not even the slightest of injuries. It was a hip check.

Richards smashes Booth's head when he was not even looking, and had a good possibility of ending his career.

Ott gets two games suspension.

Richards gets none.

Ridiculous? No. It's worse than ridiculous. It's disgusting. But hey, who cares? Who cares about Booth when it was Richards. Had it been any other 3rd, or 4th liner doing that kind of hit on say.........i dunno....... Crosby? Then God forbid there would be no suspension.

I disagree - head shots are allowed by the NHL, always have been, it doesn't matter if it's a star or a plugger. Moore on Naslund, Stevens on Lindros - two stars taken out as well, one by a plugger and one by a star - no penalties let alone suspensions.

The NHL's policy on head shots is a joke - they just don't care enough.

Hip checks are allowed too, though.

I have not seen the hip check (unless it was the slew foot/hip check I caught a glimpse of on the weekend).......however I can tell you I seen nothing wrong with the Richards hit. Head contact was incidental and Richards did not jump, stick his elbow out nor did he hit him from behind.

The problem is that there is no rule in hockey about incidental contact to the head......+ players are wearing titanium equipment these days with few improvements being made to the helmuts (that players are taking advantage of)= some head trama happening to players and has become routine enough that teams are using calculations to figure out how many man games they will loose to concusions. Im not saying it is wrong or right Im just stating that the hit I seen with Richards was legal and has been in hockey for a dogs age......rule change? Equipment change? Helmut change? all these things will never get rid of this type of hit entirely as it is part of the game. The NHL in my opinion should review all these factors and possibly try to find something that works but the fear is that if they tinker to much hitting will become non existant and that does nothing for the game.
